Job Application Security

Telecommuting Jobs Application Security Policies are designed to not only help make the TeleCommuting employment process as secure as possible...but to help insure a successful working relationship. Membership of and use of this site requires an agreement to strongly consider them.

Job Selection. The jobs we select to post are screened -- based on our 16 years of experience -- to exclude business opportunities and profit schemes. Unfortunately, they're getting better at disguising their listings as jobs that meet our listing policy. So job seekers must still stay alert -- and there's a reward for reporting any that slip through our screening.

Timeliness of Job Postings. New Job listings are posted each day, though not all job categories get new jobs at the same frequency. The first jobs with the highest Post IDs listed in each category are usually the most recent.

Better than posting dates is removing jobs when they are no longer available. A date doesn't tell if the job is no longer available. Here, job availability is constantly checked and jobs removed when no longer available. With each application made, the employer posting a job is reminded to advise us if the job is no longer available. All jobs from company and job search sites are removed when no longer available.

Also, jobs are not dated because some are long term listings by companies that employ TeleCommuters on an ongoing basis (it is the hope that many more companies do as they gain more experience working with TeleCommuters). It would be most confusing to date some and not others.

Job Application Social Security Number security. It is difficult on the Internet to confirm each and every employer is who they claim to be. So we strongly urge applicants not to give employers on our site (or anywhere) their Social Security Number (SSN) in application forms...and we appeal to employers not to require it in initial hiring arrangements.

There is a way for job seekers and employers to test the veracity of each other to prevent an identity theft security problem.

First of all, the TeleCommuter Hiring Tools we provide like Application Screening, TeleCommuter Office, TeleCommuter Certification and Live-Interviewer offer a high level of assurance an employer will get the best match for the job. Then, producing the quality of work required in a first week of work or an initial project and receiving payment for it proves the long-distance working relationship can work. It also builds the trust to then exchange SSN information.

W-4 forms can then be completed. New hires do not have to be reported in most states for 20 days. An initial independent contractor project of less than $600 can be paid for without filing a 1099 form.

If job seekers do encounter a job application form that requires a SSN, include a note stating that, for security purposes, you would prefer to complete an initial project and be paid before providing your SSN.

If job seekers feel they have to provide a SSN when applying or they will risk not getting the job, it is incumbent upon them to check the employer out very thoroughly. Some sources to use: Better Business Bureau, RipOffReport, State Attorney General Offices, confirm employer addresses, emails and names.

Responses to Online Resumes. All employer job offer responses are screened before sending them to job seekers to consider and further screen. Since all employers have access to your Online Resume, this can only provide security for job seeker information if names and email addresses are not included within the body of the resume (contact info you enter into fields on the Resume Form are not viewable by Employers). Employers contact TeleCommuters based on the skill and experience that best matches their needs...and they can receive personal info after contacting the job seeker.

Still you need to keep your eyes open.

Unfortunately, all eyes must be wide open to the abuses possible on the
Wild Web. Obviouly, we must be alert for more insidious scams to follow.
If we and the users of this site are all watchful, even the shrewdest
of scammers and hackers will not derail our desire to TeleCommute.

We reserve the right to refuse job listings, ads or resumes
deemed offensive, illegal, or fraudulent.

Because, on the Internet, it is not possible for our screening to be 100% foolproof,
